A new design for a respectful grief support system using the notion of nostalgia.

In our current Western culture and society, mourning has a negative, hasty image with a time-bound nature and often a commercial purpose.

We see grieving as an essential, human, and therefore personal experience in which losses, both large and small, are part of someone's formation. We believe that losses should be integrated into people's identities and should be part of their autobiographies. This processing and formation takes time and should not be rushed by social pressure.

This product is for people who are in the early stages of a personal loss, and who need an (alternative) grieving process that naturally supports the timeless acceptance of loss. This new design for grief support aims to modernise and humanise the image of classic bereavement.

We created a new bereavement support service that brings back the element of temporary tattoos, using the power of the temporary as a tool and conversation starter about our relationship to death and the transience of life. Normally people give and receive a (mourning) bouquet during farewell periods; a nice gesture, but very confrontational since flowers usually only bloom or live for 7 days. We question the consequences of this 'beautiful' gesture on the well-being of the mourners and want to offer something that can provide more help.

What if people could keep the legacy or memory of a deceased loved one close through a temporary tattoo, which represents the process of 'the fading of existence' and helps people learn to let go naturally and easily where more space and time are offered to accept death?

The temporary tattoo we offer fades over time but at a much slower pace and less confrontational than flowers. They fade over a year's spam due to "ephernal tattoo ink" (possibly 2 to 12 months depending on personal need) and thus give people the time and space they truly need to process their loss.

The temporary tattoos will have a natural appearance, as an extension of the body, such as hyperpigmentation or as stretch marks. Not noticeable, nor discreet.
